Dallas Partners with Ford to Electrify City Vehicle Fleet

The City of Dallas, America’s fourth-largest metro area, has taken a significant step towards achieving its climate goals by partnering with Ford’s commercial division, Ford Pro™. This collaboration aims to improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions through the electrification of the City’s vehicle fleet by 2040.

Under a 10-year agreement, Ford Pro will assist Dallas in growing and managing its EV charging infrastructure for the City’s fleet operations. As part of this initiative, the City will install Ford Pro chargers at various worksites and utilize Ford Pro’s smart charging software. This integrated solution will enable Dallas to customize and manage EV charging performance, ensuring that fleet vehicles are optimally charged and ready for use when needed.

In 2020, Dallas approved a Comprehensive Environmental & Climate Action Plan (CECAP), which includes measures to reduce carbon emissions. Key efforts under this plan involve installing EV chargers throughout the city and incorporating light-duty EVs into the City’s fleet of 5,400 vehicles.

Johnson. “This agreement with Ford Pro marks a significant milestone and will help our city avoid energy waste and save money on energy costs. Across the United States, state and local governments operate approximately four million vehicles. The U.S. government has mandated that most federal vehicle purchases should be zero-emission vehicles by 2035, a trend that state and local governments are likely to follow. This shift towards electrification is driven by factors such as rising fuel costs, potentially lower operational costs of EVs, and the suitability of EVs for municipal use.
