Ford Adds Smart Charging Bundle to CA for Commercial Fleets

Ford Pro™, the commercial arm of Ford Motor Company, is bringing its innovative Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle to California, targeting one of the largest commercial fleet markets in the U.S. This bundle is designed to simplify electric vehicle (EV) fleet management, optimize operations, and cut both initial and ongoing EV charging expenses.

Managing EV charging for commercial fleets can be a daunting task. The Ford Pro Smart Charging Bundle aims to alleviate this burden for California businesses with EV fleets. The bundle includes a complimentary Ford Pro Level 2 48-amp charger or a Level 2 80-amp charger for depot and workplace charging, available to businesses that subscribe to Ford Pro Charging software.

Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just an environmentally conscious decision; it’s also financially savvy. The all-electric E-Transit™ eliminates the need for gasoline and offers a substantial reduction in scheduled maintenance costs—estimated to be 48 percent lower than those for a gas-powered 2024 Transit®. Moreover, businesses can utilize smart charging software to schedule charging during off-peak hours, taking advantage of lower utility rates.

A standout feature of Ford Pro’s Charging Software is its automated demand-to-grid response solution. This system reacts to grid events in California, such as periods of high local demand, by automatically pausing charging, notifying the customer, and resuming charging once the event concludes. This approach helps lessen the strain on the grid, mitigating the risk of brownouts and blackouts, and contributing to a more resilient power infrastructure. Ford Pro also manages the enrollment process for customers in various California grid demand response programs, which help manage grid capacity, energy programs, and emergency load programs, along with the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) carbon credits program.
