Ford and Resideo Team Up to Create Home Power Systems

Ford Motor Company was the first automaker in the U.S. to introduce a full-size electric truck capable of bi-directional charging for the home, allowing the F-150 Lightning to serve as a full-house generator in emergency situations. Now, the company is taking that advanced technology a step further, partnering with Resideo Technologies, Inc. on an innovative new joint simulation project called the “EV-Home Power Partnership” to explore vehicle-to-home (V2H) energy management.

The EV-Home Power Partnership will create a clever solution to reduce strain on the U.S. electric grid while helping ensure homeowner comfort and helping customers save money on their monthly electric bills. With Resideo as a global provider of solutions for home comfort and residential load management programs for utilities, Ford is among good company. Resideo is exploring similar home energy management solutions for their customers, and Ford’s advanced electric vehicles have opened doors for them that weren’t possible with internal combustion engine vehicles.

The partnership is currently working on testing their products to integrate them together, pairing Resideo’s smart thermostats with the energy storage of the F-150 Lightning battery. Resideo’s systems will allow the truck and the home to cooperate and allow the stored energy to be used to power the home’s heating and cooling.

Work on this project is expected to be completed in the first half of next year, and F-150 Lightning owners will have the capability to power their heating and cooling with their trucks!
