Ford’s Electrifying Expansion of the BlueOval Charge Network
In the ever-evolving landscape of electric vehicles (EVs), Ford continues to surge ahead, pushing the boundaries of convenience and accessibility for its customers. The latest development is nothing short of groundbreaking, as Ford ramps up its efforts to bolster its BlueOval™ Charge Network in North America, increasing its capacity by a remarkable 25%. This expansion brings the new total to an astounding 106,000 charging stations, setting a new standard for EV infrastructure.
Three new charging providers have emerged on the scene, offering Ford customers seamless access to their charging needs across the United States and Canada. Francis Energy, Blink, and Red E have joined the league, and they are not just adding a few charging spots; they are bringing over 10,000 new chargers into the network, including an impressive 550 new DC fast chargers. These additions are more than just numbers; they signify Ford’s commitment to providing accessible, reliable, and rapid charging for its growing electric vehicle user base.
The BlueOval Charge Network isn’t just any charging infrastructure; it is now North America’s largest public charging network by an automaker. It’s essentially a “network of networks,” designed to eliminate the need for multiple apps and memberships. For Ford EV drivers, this means easy access to a variety of charging providers without any hassle. No more juggling multiple apps or memberships, as the BlueOval Charge Network provides a seamless stored payment account through the FordPass App or the in-vehicle touchscreen.
Once you’ve set up your BlueOval Charge Network account, you can effortlessly select, activate, and pay for charging using the FordPass “Find Chargers” functionality. In addition to this, Ford customers can plan their trips, get routing assistance, and manage charging payments through the FordPass Power My Trip feature, accessible both on the FordPass App and via Charge Assist on the vehicle’s infotainment screen.
In a significant development, Ford is also expanding its offering to include Tesla Superchargers in the BlueOval Charge Network. The estimated number of Tesla Superchargers has been increased from 12,000, as previously announced, to an impressive 15,000 and counting. This addition means that Ford EV customers will have access to even more fast and reliable chargers. These Tesla Superchargers will be available to Ford EV owners next spring via an adapter, which will become available on accessories.ford.com early next year.
For commercial customers on the move who need access to public chargers, Ford offers a seamless solution with its Ford Pro Intelligence software. This innovative software empowers fleet operators to set up a single Public Charge Management account, simplifying centralized billing, charging logs, and monthly invoicing. It’s a game-changer for businesses, ensuring that they can efficiently manage charging costs regardless of where their drivers power up.
Ford’s commitment to the continuous growth of the BlueOval Charge Network, with a particular focus on reliable fast charging, remains unwavering. As Bill Crider, Ford’s senior director of global charging and energy services, aptly puts it, “With the addition of the Tesla Supercharger Network along with new fast chargers coming to Ford Model e dealerships in 2024, we are working hard to make range anxiety a thing of the past for Ford all-electric drivers.” This vision is a testament to Ford’s dedication to providing the best possible electric driving experience for its customers.
While fast and convenient public charging options are essential, Ford recognizes that more than 80% of its EV customers currently charge their vehicles at home. This ideal ownership experience allows most customers to start their day with a fully charged vehicle, making daily life more convenient. To facilitate this, Ford offers a range of home and commercial depot charging solutions, ensuring that whether you’re on a daily commute or a more extended road trip, Ford EV customers have their charging needs fully covered.
Ford’s expansion of the BlueOval Charge Network is a monumental step forward in the electric vehicle revolution. With an array of new charging providers, the inclusion of Tesla Superchargers, and a commitment to reliability and accessibility, Ford is making electric vehicle ownership more convenient and seamless than ever before. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Ford is at the forefront, ensuring that its customers enjoy the benefits of electric driving without any compromises. The future is electrifying, and Ford is shaping it one charge at a time.
