Introducing the Maverick Lobo

Maverick customers have been personalizing their vehicles for performance and style since the truck first hit the scene in the 2022 model year, and now Ford is creating a street-performance tuned version of the popular compact truck– the new Maverick Lobo. Inspired by the lowered trucks of the mid-80s to early 2000s, the Lobo will allow even more customers to experience the value and versatility that a Maverick can provide.

Excited customers can thank Maverick designer Josh Blundo for this impressive new model. When he joined Ford in 2019, a clay model of the Maverick inspired him to begin modifying the truck as if it was his own, adding a widebody, wings, front splitter, and new wheels. His idea inspired a special build by Tucci Hot Rods that garnered positive attention at the 2021 Special Equipment Manufacturers Association trade show. Later on, Blundo and the team began designing the Maverick Lobo. Ford team engineers like Keith Daugherty worked to alter the springs and suspension of the Maverick, testing components from other Ford performance vehicles to create an authentic on-road performance truck.

The Maverick Lobo features a lowered ride height and an on-road suspension, with tuned shocks and a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine tested backed by a factory warranty. The Maverick Lobo’s ride height is a half-inch lower in the front and 1.12 inches lower in the back than a standard Maverick, and the roof height is 0.8 inches lower. The Lobo comes in two configurations, standard and high, to make it easy for customers to personalize.

The truck features performance-tuned steering with torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit, similar to the one found on the Bronco Sport, and enhanced brakes with dual-piston front brake calipers, which were also used on the Focus ST sold in Europe. The truck also features a new Lobo drive mode inspired by drifting and autocross. Meant for closed courses only, it improves cornering performance, grip, and stability, helping to minimize understeer.

The Maverick Lobo interprets Maverick aesthetics through a new lens with a unique front fascia, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings, plus a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels. The interior was inspired by street art seen by designer Kristen Keenan in her travels, with Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, a graffiti-inspired overprint on the seats, and the Lobo name embossed into the driver and passenger seats.
